New Soap Coming Soon

Well, it has been a while since I've posted anything on this blog.  I haven't made any soap since this spring when I made and filled a large custom wine soap order for a very nice lady planning a wedding shower.  I made four flavors of wine in large 6 ounce bars for her and had great fun making soap in my new kitchen for the first time.  We have move to a house we purchased in town.  It is an old 1930 Craftsman home with wood floors and wood stoves.  We love it, but it needs loads of work.

This summer I got a 6 month contract job working for the WSU Tree Fruit Research and Extension Center and things just got too busy for making soap.  Then just when things were starting to slow down and I was going to start back up again My cousin and his girlfriend announced that they were going to have a baby and get married ASAP.  I have been so busy sewing the bride a dress, slip, and veil that I still haven't made any soap.  The wedding is 10 days away and the sewing is done.  I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I am starting to get everything in order to make some new soaps.  I want to try to stay with my usual palm oil free recipe with simple ingredients, and no artificial fragrances or colors, but I will experiment with some new essential oils and other exfoliating additives.  My favorite to use myself is still the oatmeal and honey bar, but they have all turned out very nice. I have built some new soap moulds.  I think the 6 oz. bars are just too big for most people and want to start offering smaller ones.  I keep having to tell people they can just cut the bars themselves with a knife, but they just really think that is weird, I guess. I think I will shoot for about 4 to 4.5 oz bars this time, but keep the same dimensional proportions.  I will post pictures of the whole process for the first batch this time.  I think it will be lavender soap.  My daughter has been begging and begging me to make that, even though I think the scent is a bit too strong.  I will also add some lavender leaves from the garden for texture and interest.  I hope you come back and check it out when I post it.

Back to Blogging

I have been away from blogger for a while, obviously.  I am sorry, but I am back now so don't cry.  I recently made a large wholesale order f wine soap for someone who is having a shower in June.  These soaps are four different wine flavors: Merlot, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Sauvignon Blanc.  They turned out very lovely.  I got to use my new soap curing closet for the first time and the soaps are really coming along.  I promise to take some pictures and show some labeling when I do that.  The soaps will be cured and ready to label next week.  Then I will ship them out.  I will then have room in my curing closet for some new batches of soap for Etsy.  I am going to make some smaller bars this time and sell them for proportionally lower prices.  Some people have mentioned to me that my bars are a bit big.  I tried explaining that they can be cut using a regular kitchen knife to whatever size people like, but somehow people just don't want to do that themselves. I have also crocheted some new soap savers in some fun and neutral colors.  I will put new pictures on my soap saver listing as soon as I take them.
I have some ideas for some new Etsy projects I will be making as soon as I finish sewing curtains for our new house.  That is part of the reason I have not been posting much.  We have been very busy remodeling our new house.  It isn't really a new house, just new to us.  It is quite a project house, actually, but we love it.  Next up will be the yard and driveway, but that is for my other blog: SmallCityLot.  I just started that blog and will try to post new pictures every week as we go along.

I will post pictures of all of my new Etsy projects here as soon as I get them done.  TTFN
